BBVA and OpenAI Partner to Transform Global Banking

BBVA is going all-in on AI, expanding its partnership with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT Enterprise to all 120,000 employees across 25 countries. That’s a massive jump from the 11,000 employees already using it. The multi-year program aims to transform customer service, risk analysis, and internal workflows. BBVA’s chairman Carlos Torres Vila frames this as the next step after their digital and mobile banking revolution, promising a smarter, more personalized banking experience. Initial tests showed staff saving nearly three hours per week on routine tasks, with over 80% using the tools daily. The bank will also build custom AI agents connected to its systems and launch specialized training programs. OpenAI’s Sam Altman praised BBVA’s speed and ambition. BBVA already has an AI assistant called Blue for customers, and this deal includes dedicated access to OpenAI’s latest models.
