Character.AI launches AI-powered microdramas with interactive chats

Character.AI is jumping on the microdrama trend but with a twist — you can actually chat with the characters. The startup is launching three AI-generated series: a romance called “Last Summer,” a horror show “The Nighttime Game,” and a survival drama “Eden Fall.” Users over 18 can talk to the characters, ask them questions, and even roleplay different storylines. These shows were created using AI production tools, and Character.AI eventually wants to let users make their own series from original characters. This follows other entertainment-focused features like Lorebook for world-building and Books for inserting yourself into classic literature. They’re also testing c.ai FM for audio series and c.ai Reads for fiction creation. Users already spend over 950 minutes per month on the platform. Why it matters: By blending passive viewing with active interaction, Character.AI is blurring the line between entertainment and social experience, potentially redefining how we engage with stories in the age of generative AI.
