ChatGPT Work turns scattered ops docs into decision briefs in minutes

Business operations teams live in a mess of disconnected context. Project trackers, KPI dashboards, planning docs, meeting notes, Slack threads, spreadsheets, executive asks — the raw material for any decision is scattered across half a dozen tools, and someone has to stitch it together manually. That’s the problem ChatGPT Work is aimed at.

OpenAI has released a workflow guide showing how ops teams can use ChatGPT Work to pull that fragmented context into a first usable draft: an off-track brief, a strategic initiative update, a leadership decision packet, a progress update, or a scenario model. The pitch is straightforward — ChatGPT Work handles the synthesis, your team handles the judgment. As the guide puts it, the tool “helps get the working draft in front of the right people faster,” not replace the people making the call.

This isn’t a new product category. The workflows were originally demoed in Codex, OpenAI’s now-retired app, and the company has ported them to ChatGPT Work, available at chatgpt.com or in the desktop app. That migration matters: Codex users who built habits around these workflows now have a supported path forward, and the fact that OpenAI is actively producing ops-specific guidance suggests enterprise adoption is a priority, not an afterthought.

The real test is whether the drafts ChatGPT Work produces are actually good enough to save time rather than create editing work. Anyone who’s watched an LLM confidently flatten nuance in a tradeoff model knows the risk. But for ops teams drowning in status updates and executive briefs, even a rough first draft beats a blank page.
