Elon Musk's Grokipedia Hasn't Updated in 3 Months, 225,000 Edits Ignored

Elon Musk once pitched Grokipedia as a “massive improvement” over Wikipedia—an AI-generated encyclopedia that would leave crowdsourced human knowledge in the dust. That promise now looks hollow. According to a Lawfare investigation, xAI’s Grokipedia has been frozen in place since April 24th, with zero updates applied to any of its 6 million articles for over three months.

The numbers tell a damning story. Lawfare analyzed 34,519 pages that have at least one suggested edit, containing a total of 225,496 recommended corrections. Not a single one has been accepted or rejected since late April. Even the platform’s own “live edits” page carries a blunt message: “No live edits available right now.” That’s a stark contrast to the dynamic, ever-evolving model Wikipedia operates on, where thousands of edits are processed daily.

xAI did not respond to a request for comment, and the silence is feeding a narrative of abandonment. Musk’s last post on X mentioning Grokipedia was in February, and users on Reddit and the platform itself are openly asking whether the project is dead. Grokipedia launched in October 2025 with 885,000 articles and expanded rapidly—but growth in volume means little if the underlying knowledge base is rotting in place. An encyclopedia that doesn’t incorporate corrections isn’t an improvement over anything; it’s a snapshot of whatever the model hallucinated months ago, preserved in amber.

This isn’t just a maintenance failure, it’s a broken promise at the architectural level. The entire pitch for an AI encyclopedia relies on the idea that models can ingest new information and self-correct faster than human editors. When a 225,000-edit backlog sits untouched for a quarter of a year, it suggests either the moderation pipeline was never built to scale, or xAI has simply moved its attention elsewhere. Either way, the result is the same: a knowledge base that’s more frozen than the supposedly “static” human-curated one Musk criticized.
