The company is now concentrating AI leadership in California and pivoting its science strategy away from specialized tools like DeepMind’s AlphaFold toward agentic AI systems that can research autonomously. The subtext is clear: the talent wars are bleeding Google, morale murmurs are real, and the flagship model delays have forced a hard look at whether the old structure still works.
