Instagram won't filter AI content, but will label it

Instagram head Adam Mosseri has made it clear: the platform won’t be filtering out AI-generated content anytime soon. Instead, he wants to give users the tools to decide for themselves. In a recent podcast interview, Mosseri explained that while Instagram will label AI content, it won’t offer a filter to remove it from your feed. He believes people who enjoy AI creations should be able to have a feed full of it, and those who don’t should simply scroll past. Detecting AI is tricky, Mosseri admits, especially as models get better. He even suggests it might be easier to label non-AI content as ‘camera-captured’ to verify authenticity. Meanwhile, Instagram is doubling down on AI features, like Muse Spark, which lets users tag others in AI-generated images — a move that’s raising serious concerns about exploitation and abuse.
