OpenAI’s Frontier Models & Codex Land on AWS

OpenAI just made its frontier models and Codex generally available on AWS, a move that could speed up AI adoption across big enterprises. The big deal? Companies can now tap into powerful AI tools like GPT-4 and Codex through Amazon’s cloud without overhauling their trusty security, procurement, or governance setups. This removes a lot of friction in getting AI from testing into real deployment. You get two main options: using OpenAI models via Amazon Bedrock for building apps with AWS-native controls, or Codex—the coding agent used by 5 million devs weekly—for writing, reviewing, and debugging code right in your AWS environment. It’s also available in GovCloud for government clients. OpenAI plans to add more capabilities over time, including Daybreak, which helps security teams with code reviews, threat modeling, and risk analysis.
