Computer Vision
A field of AI that trains computers to interpret and understand the visual world, enabling machines to identify objects, scenes, and activities in images and videos.
Computer vision is a branch of AI that enables machines to derive meaningful information from digital images, videos, and other visual inputs. It aims to replicate and automate human visual perception.
Major computer vision tasks:
- Image Classification: Categorizing images (e.g., “cat” vs “dog”)
- Object Detection: Locating and identifying objects within an image
- Semantic Segmentation: Pixel-level classification of images
- Image Generation: Creating new images from text descriptions
- Optical Character Recognition (OCR): Reading text from images
Modern computer vision relies heavily on deep learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) and Vision Transformers (ViTs). Applications include autonomous vehicles, medical imaging, facial recognition, and augmented reality.
