Natural Language Processing (NLP)
A subfield of AI focused on enabling computers to understand, interpret, and generate human language in a meaningful way.
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is the branch of AI concerned with the interaction between computers and human language. NLP enables machines to read, understand, and generate text in a way that is both meaningful and useful.
Core NLP tasks:
- Text Classification: Spam detection, sentiment analysis
- Named Entity Recognition: Identifying people, places, organizations in text
- Machine Translation: Translating between languages
- Text Summarization: Condensing long documents
- Question Answering: Providing accurate answers to queries
- Text Generation: Creating coherent written content
NLP has been transformed by the transformer architecture and large language models. Modern NLP systems achieve human-level or near-human-level performance on many benchmarks, though challenges like reasoning, truthfulness, and bias remain active research areas.
