ChatGPT gets shared projects and smarter tool connectors

OpenAI is rolling out a series of updates for its business-tier ChatGPT plans that move the product beyond a simple chatbot and into genuine team collaboration territory. The headline feature is shared projects, which lets multiple team members work within a dedicated, persistent workspace. Think of it as a digital war room where everyone can throw in files, set shared instructions, and ensure ChatGPT’s responses are tailored to a specific, ongoing goal—whether that’s managing a client account, producing a consistent content series, or assembling monthly reports.

The pitch is straightforward: stop re-explaining context. A project has its own private memory, so when an account manager uploads call notes, a solutions engineer can immediately ask ChatGPT to summarize the latest updates for a customer demo without a tedious preamble. Access controls let project creators invite teammates as either viewers or editors, and the feature is live now for Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. OpenAI is framing this as an early step, with asynchronous collaboration and conversation-branching built in from the start.

Beyond projects, the company is tightening integrations with the tools where work actually lives. New connectors can now pull information directly from Gmail, Google Calendar, Microsoft Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, GitHub, Dropbox, and Box. The real upgrade here isn’t just access—it’s that the model can now decide when to use a connector automatically. OpenAI claims responses are faster and more accurate, letting a worker draft a meeting agenda based on recent emails or onboard to a new codebase by querying a GitHub repo without manually pointing ChatGPT in the right direction.

There’s also a compliance and security nod for the IT crowd: new ISO certifications, an expanded SOC 2 report, role-based access controls, and enhanced SSO. The message to enterprises is clear—your data handling anxieties are noted.
