ChatGPT's new data analysis connects straight to Google Drive and OneDrive

OpenAI is rolling out a significant upgrade to ChatGPT’s data analysis capabilities, and the headline feature is direct integration with cloud storage. Instead of the tedious download-then-upload routine, ChatGPT Plus, Team, and Enterprise users can now pull files straight from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive. This lets the model get to work on Sheets, Docs, Slides, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint files without the extra steps. The feature is hitting the new flagship GPT-4o model over the coming weeks.

But the update goes beyond file access. OpenAI is giving the analysis workflow a visual overhaul with a new expandable, interactive table view. When you drop in a dataset, ChatGPT generates a table you can pop into full-screen mode, watching updates happen in real time as it runs its analysis. You’re not just a spectator—you can click on specific data points to drill down with follow-up questions or pick from suggested prompts to push the exploration further. The company gives the example of combining monthly expense spreadsheets and auto-generating a pivot table categorized by expense type.

Chart creation is getting the interactive treatment too. Bar, line, pie, and scatter plot charts are now customizable within the conversation itself. You can hover over elements, tweak colors, and ask questions about what you’re seeing before downloading the finished product for a slide deck or report. For chart types that don’t support this new interactivity, ChatGPT falls back to generating a static version.

OpenAI included quotes from users who’ve folded ChatGPT into their data workflows, with one noting the tool helps them sift through datasets too large and complex for Excel, cutting down the time to reach insights. Another described it as freeing up bandwidth for more strategic work. The company also reiterated its privacy stance: no training on Team or Enterprise data, and Plus users can opt out through their Data Controls. Trust and data privacy, they say, remain at the core of the mission.
