Ex-Snap ML engineer's app Reelful wants AI to edit your Reels

Kate Deyneka spent years building video and image models at Snapchat. Now she’s betting that the same people who find traditional editing tools unbearable are ready to hand their camera rolls over to an AI agent. Her new iOS app, Reelful, automatically stitches photos and video clips into polished short-form videos — the kind built for TikTok and Instagram — using nothing more than a text prompt and a 30-second voice sample.

The mechanics are straightforward. You tell the app what story you want to tell, feed it the raw assets, and it plans the video, writes a script, lays down an AI voiceover cloned from your voice, and adds captions, music, and sound effects. Still images get animated into short video snippets — a photo of someone cutting a mango becomes a clip of them slicing into it, complete with an AI watermark for transparency. If the result isn’t quite right, you can chat with the app to swap the soundtrack or tweak the script.

Deyneka, who is currently in a16z’s Speedrun program, sees founders and small business owners as the initial sweet spot. The Bay Area salon with a backlog of customer transformation photos, the entrepreneur recording quick interviews at events — these are people with plenty of content and zero time to edit. “By the time you’re home, the video is ready,” Deyneka told TechCrunch, describing a use case where everything is uploaded during the drive back from an event. The pitch is clear: presence without the grind.

Pricing mixes one-time credit bundles with subscriptions. Five videos cost $15, while the $50 per month Pro plan unlocks 25 videos. Android and web versions are on the roadmap, but for now the app is iOS-only. Reelful enters a space already crowded by AI startups like Opus Clip and Captions, but its agentic approach — planning, writing, and assembling rather than just trimming existing footage — suggests Deyneka is chasing something closer to a hands-off creative partner than a time-saving tool.
